NSW: Discussion paper on criminal responsibility of children

State Opposition leader KERRY CHIKAROVKSI has welcomed a review which suggests the
age of criminal responsibility for children should be reduced.

The New South Wales government is considering reforms following a Criminal Law Review
Division paper which reveals children are now more sophisticated than their counterparts
100 years ago.

The paper released yesterday has sparked suggestions that the age of criminal responsibility
should be lowered to 12.

Under existing laws, 10 to 14 year-olds are presumed by the courts …
